Jason Barton-Brown, Your Wild About Mushrooms Executive Chef
A born and raised Calgarian, and with family throughout Alberta, Jason’s culinary career began as a line cook at a large chain restaurant. Originally he worked in a kitchen for the fun, but quickly realized how much he loved cooking. Jason embraced the culinary program at SAIT while working at The Coup and The Hyatt in the evenings. After graduating and taking a job as butcher at River Café, he began to crave international experience. Jason began his international journey with a six-week culinary exchange in Austria, followed by a two-week stage at St. John in London. The following year, he spent three weeks in California at Chez Panisse and soon there after obtained a working visa to travel Europe, securing the opportunity to work at a 2 Michelin Star restaurant (La Manoir aux Quat’Saisons) that focused on local and seasonal food and then at The Fat Duck that at the time was ranked the ninth best restaurant in the world. In the spring of 2010 Jason came back to River Café in Calgary, and eventually was asked to take the position of Chef at Teatro. In 2016 Jason was given an opportunity to get back to his roots at Hayloft Restaurant, an upscale family restaurant in Airdrie.
